In the upcoming MCU film, Thor: Love and Thunder, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster has claimed Mjölnir as her own and become a god in her own right. Along with god-like powers comes god-like height, however, and Portman, who is 5’3,” had to look over six feet tall when she was playing Jane-as-Mighty-Thor.
In an interview with Variety, Portman and fellow co-star Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, shared how they made Portman as Mighty Jane Thor so tall.
“We’d rehearse the scene, they’d see the path, and then they’d build a path that was like one foot off the ground or whatever, and I would just walk on that,” Portman told Variety.
The crew called Portman’s raised platform a deck, which led to some jokes on set. “Depending on the accent, sometimes it sounded like something else,” Thomspon said. “Because we’re all children.”
Portman elaborated on the fun the cast and crew had with the decks by adding: “[Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor] would have to …” she said to Variety before reportedly trying to take a wide step while keeping her head level. She then laughed and said, “They’d all have to navigate my deck!”
